Recent Championship Stages Rallies

Probably the best wee rally in the world..

Carlsberg don’t do rallying but if they did, they need not look any further than the Eakin Bros Brian James Trailers stages last weekend.
The third round of the Northern Ireland championship had it all. A compact route which included 2 fantastic stages, a spacious service area in the center of Strabane, a very reasonable entry fee of £380 and a decent rally program for just a fiver!
Add to that, a very high quality field of almost 100 competitors, Killian and Andy’s Facebook live and a lovely sunny day. It doesn’t get much better than that..
Actually, it did. Tarmac championship runners Desi Henry, Callum Devine and were in attendance along with NI regulars like Derek McGarrity and Derek McGeehan. Top modified drivers Kevin Eves and Escort prep expert Ryan Loughran who has been out of the drivers seat for 9 months also lined up for the 6 stage event.
In the end it was Desi Henry and Liam Moynihan in their Skoda R5 that took the overall spoils closely followed by Callum Devine in his Fiesta. Both these guys will be in action on the Easter stages in little over a week and expect them both to be right at the sharp end.
Behind them, Kevin Eves and co driver Chris Melly took third overall and 1st modified car home after a superhuman effort on the final stage which moved them ahead of both Ryan Loughran and Derek McGarrity. Some going in the Corolla!
All in all, a fantastic days rallying. Competitor friendly, spectator friendly and an event many other clubs could learn from.
Credit of course must go to the team from the Maiden City Motor Club who may just have ran the best wee rally in the world.. Probably!
